Being Special: Its all in the name!

12 Feb

Explain why you chose your blog’s title and what it means to you.

There was never any doubt over the name of my blog. The problem was getting the domain, because it proved to be a popular name!!

special_needs_childrenI teach many many different children. I have been a teacher for 16 years. I have seen knives, violence, schools burned down, weeping, despair, elation, fear, despair, hope, and many many other things besides.

No matter what the challenge the student faces, each and every one of the children that have come through my doors have been special. Sometimes the name ‘special’ is used in a derogatory way within the school setting. That is not the way I want this word to been viewed.

Each young person is special, they deserve the best education that we can provide, so that we can help each and every one of them fulfil their own potential and function fully in society, living rewarding life.
