School presentation: show and tell

16 Mar

Daily Prompt: You’ve been asked to do a five-minute presentation to a group of young schoolchildren on the topic of your choice. Describe your presentation.

I actually did an assembly not so long ago, and mine was on the importance of being a healthy weight

weight lossI actually told my own weight loss story, where I lost 5 stone in weight because I decided to make an effort to get fit and be healthy. The message was that you can do whatever you want to do, if you set your mind to it.

Often people shrug off weight loss and the numbers mean very little to them, so I visualised the weight that I lost by collecting sacks of gatorade up to the correct weight.

I then put it in huge bags and asked some children to come and try and lift them. Sure, some actually could, but then I asked them to imagine that they had to carry that around with them all the time, none stop.

Then they became a little more impressed.

I followed the assembly on with healthy eating, the dangers of junk food and the importance of healthy diet.
